Classic Course Sölvesborg, Sweden
18 holes
par 72
1990
Designed by Sune Linde

Sölvesborg Golf Club is located right alongside Sölvesborgviken, a bay separating the town and the new suburb of Ljungaviken. Surprisingly, your first proper encounter with the sea comes on the back nine, where on the 13th tee you glimpse the sea in the distance and as you walk along, the forest opens up to offer a view of the green beautifully framed by a splendid sea view. The course is laid it out in mature birch and fir woodland with each hole in its own room neatly separated by the trees. On many holes cleverly positioned trees offer extra spice to the course management challenges. The 7th is a fine example, a shortish par four, a slight dogleg right with a well-positioned bunker on the inside sweep. Choose a safe line, as too far to the left will bring in three tall birches to block your approach to the green. For those that are able to confidently shape a long fade off tee, it is an ideal hole. The layout is not long, measuring only 5,900 meters from the tips, but the somewhat undulating fairways sometimes hide the landing areas. The encroaching trees sometimes call for controlled fades or draws. Sölvesborg is definitely a shot-maker’s course. Sölvesborg is routed on lovely springy and sandy soil, which on rainy days drains well. The county of Blekinge is known for its mellow and sunny summer climate, but in the autumn it can get rather wet and windy, as warm, humid air pushes in from the Baltic Sea.& So, make sure to visit Sölvesborg in the summer, and, after playing the course on a hot summer’s day, don’t forget that the club has its own beach!
